About the Wool

Plover - Long-lasting Norwegian wool

A proprietary blend of wool produced in Norway from Norwegian sheep.

Due to this yarn’s unique qualities and consistent popularity, this wool quality has been a part of our family since 1939!

Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. This yarn offers an authentic look renowned for its uniquely crisp look and longevity.

Garments knitted with Plover needs to be hand washed. (Fiber diameter: 33 micron)

To achieve an 8000 mm waterproof rating, our sweaters are knitted with Norwegian wool treated with Teflon. This treatment also adds extra dirt resistance. Our sweaters are lined with a wind proof lining made of a polyester/polyurethane blend. This provides for comfortable sweaters with high breathability, keeping you warm and dry on windy days, in light showers. Please note that these sweaters are water resistant, not waterproof.

Teflon is made from the same material used in Gore-Tex and other waterproof textiles: polytetrafluoroethylene

History

A large Norwegian eight-petal rose in front hints to snow crystals and winter sports. Yet, some of the design inspiration comes from a somewhat different arena: The way the eight-petal rose and its additional details are arranged is inspired by traditional Norwegian bridal jewelry. Those bridal jewelry called “brudedaler”, a kind of hybrid between pendant jewelry and a brooch, was originally given as an engagement gift. They marked the bride’s transition from single to married, and were believed to protect the bride and her future children from harm and evil spirits.

The name “Veskre” comes from Veskrehorgi, one of the mountains in the Norwegian skiing paradise of Voss. And naturally, the bridal jewelry inspiring the design of this sweater also comes from Voss.
