What Thanksgiving Morning at the Turkey Trot Feels Like

If you’ve never run the Pete Keyes Turkey Trot, imagine:

  • A crowd of runners layered in bright hats, gloves, and turkey-themed gear.

  • Families jogging together, strollers at the back, speedsters near the front.

  • Volunteers cheering along the course, even when the forecast calls for cold, wind—or snow. Recent years have seen runners happily tackling the five miles in swirling flakes, proving that this is truly an all-weather tradition. https://www.wbng.com+1

The atmosphere is relaxed but energetic. Some runners race hard for time, others jog and chat with friends, and plenty of people show up in costumes just to be part of the fun. However you choose to race, you’ll cross the finish line with that perfect “I earned my Thanksgiving dinner” feeling.

How to Prepare for the 5-Miler

A few quick tips to make race morning smooth:

  • Dress in layers. It’s late November in Upstate New York, so plan for cold temps and possible wind or snow.

  • Arrive early. Give yourself time for parking, packet pick-up, bathroom stops, and a short warm-up. RunSignup

  • Plan your pace. Five miles is long enough to be a challenge but short enough to have fun. Start steady and finish strong.

  • Bring your donation. Toss canned or boxed goods into the collection bins when you pick up your bib. RunSignup+1
