Kviteseid is a beautiful detailed jacket inspired by Norwegian rosemaling (literally “rose painting”). Rosemaling is an ornamental decorative painting style deeply rooted in Norwegian folk art, known for its powerful yet refined use of colors. Our Kviteseid jacket is a beautiful and toned-down interpretation of the rosemaling style. If you would like your rosemaling jacket to be a little more expressive, check out Kviteseid’s beautiful rosemaling sister, the Kvinesdal jacket.

Fittingly, the Kviteseid jacket is made of 100% fine Norwegian wool. By selecting the finest wool from the sheep’s very first shearing, the fibers are short, giving us a finer and softer yarn. The outcome is thin, light and soft garments, while maintaining the brilliance, crimp and longevity for which Norwegian wool is world renowned. For extra comfort, the neck is lined with soft merino wool.

Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. Our Norwegian wool comes from sheep known for roaming freely in the vast Norwegian hillsides while grazing in natural pastures.

To make it machine washable the Heron yarn undergoes a revolutionary new wool treatment using natural non-toxic salts. Machine wash using wool-cycle. (Fiber diameter: 30.5 micron)

Rosemaling is deeply rooted in Norwegian folk art. This ornamental decorative painting style flourished in Norway from 1700-1900 AD and is known for its powerful yet refined use of colors. Typical décor elements are lush roses (hence the name rose painting) surrounded by flower ornamentation and ribbons in flowing patterns. The expression is vibrant, playful and often asymmetric in style. Rosemaling was traditionally used to decorate everything from wooden beer bowls and chests, to entire rooms – cupboards, beds, doors, ceilings and walls included.
