Binghamton University Students to Complete HWS 220 Class Triathlon on Friday, May 1

VESTAL, N.Y. — Twenty-four students in Binghamton University’s HWS 220 Triathlon Training course will complete their class triathlon on Friday, May 1, 2026, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Binghamton University West Gym.

The event serves as a culminating experience for students in Binghamton University’s Health and Wellness Studies program under the Decker School of Health Sciences. Throughout the semester, students have trained for and studied the many pieces that go into triathlon preparation, including exercise science, nutrition, lifestyle change, behavior modification, pacing, endurance training, and personal wellness.

Students will complete a 500-yard swim in the West Gym pool, a 12-mile bike on spin bikes, and a 2.6-mile run on an out-and-back course around campus. The first heat begins at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s heat, followed by men’s heats at 2:00 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.

The class has built a strong sense of community throughout the semester, and the triathlon gives students a chance to demonstrate their growth, confidence, preparation, and commitment in a supportive race-day environment. Spectators are welcome, and media may attend in person. Paid parking is available near the facility if needed.

Family, friends, and supporters who are unable to attend can watch the event through a livestream at:

Media will have opportunities to capture students during the swim, transition, bike, run, and finish portions of the event. Interviews with students and course leadership may be available before or after the event, depending on race timing and student availability.
