The YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County's All Paws for a Cause brought dogs, families, vendors and community partners together for its 25th annual edition—and for a practical mission: helping local women overcome barriers to breast and cervical cancer screening through the YWCA's ENCOREplus program.

How All Paws for a Cause works
All Paws is part dog walk, part community festival and part peer-to-peer fundraiser. Participants register their dogs, collect pledges from friends, family, coworkers and neighbors, and gather for a morning built around movement, connection and fun. In 2026, the dog whose owner raised the most in pledges earned the title of 2027 Spokes Dog, carrying the story forward into the next year's event.

The 2026 program included a doggie costume parade, talent show, agility course, contests, Treat Crawl, Paw Art, photo opportunities, vendors, raffles and giveaways. The format is deliberately bigger than a walk: it gives families reasons to stay, connect and learn about the mission behind the day.

What the paws are actually supporting
ENCOREplus is the YWCA's breast and cervical health outreach program. The organization connects women with education, screening access and patient navigation, with particular attention to people who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise face barriers to preventive care. The YWCA's financial reporting identifies All Paws for a Cause as ENCOREplus's major annual fundraiser and says event funds help cover transportation to and from cancer screenings.
The same report says ENCOREplus also offered free child or adult care to help remove another common barrier to keeping screening appointments.

How Confluence Running showed up
Confluence Running's role in 2026 went beyond putting a logo on an event. Our team attended the day, tabled in the vendor area and photographed the community so the event could live on after the tents came down. The partnership conversation also included the possibility of adding a run or walk component before the main All Paws gathering in a future edition. That idea was exploratory—not an announced race—but it reflects a natural overlap between the YWCA's community-health mission and Confluence Running's focus on movement and local events.

All Paws works because it does not ask people to choose between a serious cause and a joyful day. Dogs, costumes, games and a walk make the event welcoming.
