A 5K in Brooklyn this December has a meaningful connection to Binghamton University. Alumna Jules Manchester (MA ’23) and her family are organizing Miles for Mark 5K to support her father, Mark Lewandowski, following a hemorrhagic stroke in January 2024.
Mark spent years working with animals and conservation projects, including efforts to protect tortoises in Madagascar. Today, his family is raising money for a specialized wheelchair and wheelchair-accessible vehicle to help him get to appointments and take part in family milestones.

Running together for stroke awareness
The event also draws attention to B.E. F.A.S.T., a reminder of common stroke warning signs: changes in Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms and Speech, and Time to call 911. Organizers have described the event as inclusive of runners, walkers and people using mobility aids. Participants should check directly with the race organizer about course accessibility and individual participation needs.
We are sharing Miles for Mark as a community race with a Binghamton connection. The family and event organizers manage registration, fundraising and event details.
