Begin with the fiber and care label when choosing a Dale of Norway piece. A family name helps you find a pattern you like; the exact garment tells you what will sit against your skin, how it will layer and how to look after it.

Norwegian wool and merino are different starting points
Dale's wool guide describes a range of Norwegian and merino yarns selected for different products. Its Plover Norwegian wool has a crisp, traditional character and requires hand washing. Other yarns have different treatments and care requirements. A soft impression in a photograph cannot identify the material or its washing method.
For your comparison, try the garment with the layer you intend to wear underneath. Check the neck and wrists as well as the body. Some people like the structure of a traditional knit over a shirt; others prefer a finer layer near the skin. That preference belongs in the fitting conversation.
Care follows the individual garment
The sewn-in label takes priority. Dale advises airing between wears and spot cleaning when appropriate. Wash only as the label permits, using wool detergent. Do not assume machine washing is safe because another Dale garment allows it. After washing, reshape and dry flat; avoid tumble drying and direct heat. Fold dry sweaters for storage rather than leaving them on hangers.
A useful comparison checklist
| Check | Why it matters to your choice |
|---|---|
| Exact fiber label | Compare the actual item rather than borrowing a composition from a coordinating hat or sweater. |
| Your intended underlayer | Try the combined thickness and check neck, shoulder and sleeve comfort. |
| Closure and collar | Decide whether you want a crew neck, zip opening or jacket format. |
| Care routine | Choose a piece whose labeled maintenance fits the way you will use it. |
Shop by design, choose by garment

If an online listing leaves a care or composition question unanswered, ask us to check the specific item. A picture of its label is more useful than an assumption based on the pattern.
