The Binghamton University Running Club Open, also known as the BRC Open or BURC Open, brought collegiate club cross country racing to campus on Saturday. Binghamton runners welcomed visiting clubs, including Cornell and Cortland, for a fall meet through the nature preserve and surrounding trails. The day's photographs tell the story: athletes racing through autumn color, teammates staying close on the course, and volunteers keeping the event moving.

At the BRC Open, the women's 5K was scheduled for 10 a.m. and the men's 8K for 11 a.m. The course used a mix of grass, dirt, and gravel, with rolling terrain through the university's nature preserve. NIRCA's event listing has course details and meet information.

Our images capture Cornell athletes running down the sunlit course, groups of Binghamton Running Club runners moving together, and competitors representing visiting schools. Off the course, students and volunteers added their own energy, including some memorable inflatable banana props.

The story coming out of NIRCA Northeast Regionals
The BRC Open arrived one week after the October 17 NIRCA Northeast Regional in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Among the most interesting regional performances was Cornell's Ella Whiffen, who finished second in the women's 6K in 22:43.4. Binghamton's Sarah Guyette placed sixth in 23:29.3. These marks offer context for the teams' form entering the BRC Open, but Saturday's shorter 5K does not support a direct time-for-time comparison.
Another tight regional matchup came from Binghamton's Eva Curran and Cornell's Ella Zilli. Curran placed 37th in 25:21.5, just 4.9 seconds ahead of Zilli in 39th at 25:26.4. Their Northeast Regional performances make them names to follow as the collegiate club season moves toward nationals. Their BRC Open placings are not yet verified here.

More than a race
Collegiate club running depends on teammates, organizers, families and volunteers. Parents photographed the action while volunteers helped direct runners around the course. It was a chance for students from different campuses to compete, reconnect and enjoy the cross country season.
