Kids' Sizing Guide
Confluence Running Sizing Guide
Room to grow should still fit today.
Kids grow quickly, but sizing up too aggressively can create slipping, poor control and discomfort. Use current measurements and allow reasonable growth without sacrificing fit.
Kids' footwear
- Measure both feet while the child is standing and use the larger foot as the starting point.
- Measure again periodically; children's feet can change faster than expected.
- Allow comfortable toe room, but avoid buying so large that the foot slides excessively inside the shoe.
- Check heel security and make sure the shoe bends and moves naturally with the child.
- Use the socks the child normally wears for the activity when trying shoes on.
Important: kids' shoe-size conversions can vary by brand and at the transition from youth to adult sizing. Use the manufacturer's current conversion rather than one universal rule.
Kids' apparel
Age labels are only a rough guide. When available, compare the child's height, chest, waist and hip measurements with the specific brand chart. For jackets and layers, consider what will be worn underneath without adding so much room that the garment interferes with movement.
When a child is near adult sizing
Do not assume a youth size converts directly into a men's, women's or unisex size. Use the brand's stated conversion and evaluate the actual fit. This matters especially with running shoes, spikes and technical apparel.
Moving into adult sizing?
Use the footwear and unisex guides to avoid guessing at conversions.
