Tim Strong Waves while running the Binghamton Bridge Run Half Marathon

The unspoken truths of training for your first half marathon

I sit here on the eve of my first half marathon, butterflies in stomach, thinking of what got me here.  The short answer is, a few months back I decided “Why not?” and started training. It was far deeper than that though. I didn’t sign up for the race right away. I also didn’t tell people right away. Why?  Accountability. I wanted the ability to bail on this venture (I have before shortly after the start) without feeling overly disappointed in myself.

I Am Not a Runner, By Tim Strong

I Am Not a Runner, By Tim Strong

That was the spark that launched me into this running journey.  I am by no means an elite runner.  I’m the “average joe” who rates races based on the post-race party, giveaways, and overall vibe.  I’m the one that bases the races I run NOT based on the course, but more what happens before and after it.  You won’t see me winning any age group awards, but that’s not why I do it.  I do it for the donuts.
