Adirondack endurance news | October 20, 2026

Lake George, New York, will welcome a new 70.3-mile triathlon on Sunday, June 13, 2027. The IRONMAN Group announced the inaugural race on October 19, bringing a new swim, bike and run weekend to the southern Adirondacks. General registration is scheduled to open October 29, 2026.

The announcement puts Lake George Village and surrounding Warren County communities on the calendar for another major endurance event. The proposed course combines a lake swim, an Adirondack bike ride and a village-centered run with a finish at Charles R. Wood Park.

What the organizers announced about the course

The initial plan starts with a single-loop, 1.2-mile swim in Lake George. Athletes will then ride a single-loop, 56-mile bike course through the surrounding Adirondack region. A two-loop, 13.1-mile run will bring competitors past Lake George landmarks and gathering areas before the finish at Charles R. Wood Park.

These are the formats described in the October 19 announcement, not a final turn-by-turn course map. The release did not specify the bike elevation profile, exact road routes, swim entry location or transition layout.

Why Lake George is getting attention

The location gives the new event a combination of open-water swimming, Adirondack cycling and a compact village finish for spectators. Organizers also highlighted opportunities for area hotels, restaurants and local shops as athletes and their supporters travel to the region.

Regional reporting describes a three-year hosting arrangement covering 2027 through 2029. The inaugural race date is confirmed, while future editions should be checked against subsequent organizer announcements.

For athletes in Lake Placid, the North Country, the Capital Region and elsewhere in New York, the announcement adds another long-distance triathlon option to the regional racing schedule.

What happens next

General registration opens Thursday, October 29, 2026. The organizer has also announced qualifying opportunities for the 2027 world championship event in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Entry fees, final slot allocations and athlete-specific procedures should be checked with the organizer.

Detailed maps, elevation information, traffic arrangements, transition instructions and the complete athlete schedule were not included in the October 19 announcement. We will distinguish confirmed updates from early planning information as details become available.
