Our take

The Glycerin 23 is Brooks' plush neutral everyday road trainer. DNA TUNED uses different cushioning characteristics under the heel and forefoot for soft landings and a livelier transition. We would put it in front of someone who wants more underfoot comfort than a traditional mid-cushion model while keeping the shoe practical for regular mileage.

Compare Glycerin GTS 23 if you like guided support and Glycerin Max 2 if you prefer an even taller, rolling platform. Neighborhood runs and long stretches on smooth paths are natural places to use it.

Fit before category

Fit & feel

Fit-check the engineered knit upper, heel hold and forefoot space. If you're upgrading from an earlier Glycerin, pay attention to how the shape and amount of cushioning have changed, especially during a longer walk. Extra cushioning does not fix a poor upper fit. Try the shoe in your usual width, move naturally, then compare it with a second model to decide which ride feels more comfortable and controlled.

We fit shoes against your foot shape, width, comfort, movement and intended use—not just a label like “neutral” or “stability.”

How the shoe works

Technology & ride

Dual-cell, nitrogen-infused DNA TUNED cushioning pairs a soft heel landing with a more responsive forefoot. The broad platform and engineered knit upper target a comfortable daily-road fit.

Use the shoe somewhere real

Where we'd run or walk it

Instead of stopping at “road” or “trail,” these are real local places that make this shoe's use case easier to understand.

Binghamton / Johnson City

Hudson Valley / Middletown

Heritage Trail

Asphalt + limestone rail trail · mostly flat

Good for: Long runs · walking · marathon mileage

The Heritage Trail is built for predictable, repeatable road-style mileage without needing to plan a complicated route. That makes it a natural place for an everyday support trainer.

Watertown / North Country

100 km running challenge

“I have successfully completed the 100 km yesterday with a 10k run”

— u/cwheten · Read the original Reddit discussion ↗

Our fit perspective: One runner enjoyed the Glycerin 23 over a sustained running-and-walking month. Another runner in the same discussion preferred the 1080 v15 instead. That makes heel hold, forefoot shape and cushioning feel worth comparing in person.
