Running Towards Wellness: Binghamton University’s Marathon Training Journey
Each fall, students at Binghamton University take on an extraordinary challenge through the Marathon Training course (HWS 222). This unique two-credit class blends rigorous physical training with wellness education, culminating in a semester-end half marathon through the scenic South Side of Binghamton. Under the guidance of instructor Matthew Gawors, participants not only enhance their endurance and fitness but also develop lifelong habits for health and resilience. The journey concludes with a celebratory run starting and ending at the West Gym, showcasing the dedication and achievements of these future wellness leaders.
Binghamton Bridge Run: Rain | Photos & Results
The Greater Binghamton Bridge Run showcased a vibrant representation from various running clubs, each contributing to the community spirit of the event. Clubs such as Synergy Athletics, Newbsanity, and the Binghamton University Running Club brought together athletes like Carly Fernald and Marie Collin, who achieved notable finish times of 1:33:49.81 and 1:41:32.79, respectively. Other clubs like BAE Systems Run Club and Visions Federal Credit Union Wellness Program also had strong showings with participants like Bob Kuchera and Tim Strong. The event was not only a test of endurance but also a celebration of communal support and sportsmanship, highlighting the impact of these clubs on fostering a cohesive and supportive running community in Binghamton.
Binghamton University's HWS Triathlon Training Class Celebrates Semester-End Achievements
The Binghamton University Health & Wellness Studies program in the Decker School of Health Sciences concluded its semester with an impressive triathlon event, where students showcased their skills in swimming, cycling, and running. This 4-credit course not only focused on physical training but also integrated comprehensive academic discussions on anatomy, nutrition, and lifestyle management, culminating in standout performances such as Benjamin's remarkable overall time of 1:10:27 and Jessica's swift run at 8:48 per mile. The event emphasized personal growth, teamwork, and the development of leadership skills, highlighting the program's commitment to producing well-rounded individuals prepared for life's diverse challenges.
Binghamton University Health & Wellness Studies Holds Class Triathlon
While students were competitive with each other, they also created strong bonds within the class. Students elevated each other higher by helping motivate and keep each other accountable throughout the semester. Even past students from the early years of the class chimed in on the Go-Pro Facebook Live Streaming (part 2) of the Triathlon, all sharing nostalgic stories about the class.
Spiderman wins 800m Dash at Binghamton University Track Meet
Spiderman's name was Danny Peterson and won his 800m heat with a time of 2:20. At the BU Running Club Banana Relays, it's not enough to just win, but to win epically.
2019 NYS Master's Swimming Championship Meet
Put on by the Binghamton University Master Swimmers (The BUMS) and hosted by Binghamton University, the NYS Master's Swimming Championship meet was attended by swimmers all over the nation. The meet consisted of a three day competition with varying distances, divisions, and heats.
